Nitzy's Hockey Den Quebec Nordiques All-Time Team

Last week the good folks at TSN released the last of their All-Time teams for each Canadian franchise. When they did the Winnipeg Jets, they fudged the rules a little by not including the Atlanta Thrashers part of the current franchise. They did of course include the WHA Winnipeg Jets. Along the same line of thinking, I decided to create a Quebec Nordiques All-Time team using the WHA an NHL seasons, but not the Colorado Avalanche portion of the franchise.
Lots of WHA content, as there should be, Quebec was one of the strongest teams over the 7-year existence of the league. The top goalie in Nordiques history is Richard Brodeur who played all seven WHA seasons with Quebec and his 165 career wins rank only two behind Joe Daley for most in league history. In addition his WHA career goals against average was 3.64. Dan Bouchard ranks as Quebec's second best goalie who posted a 3.59 GAA over his five NHL seasons in Quebec.
The top defenceman in Quebec history is easily J.C. Tremblay who was a four time WHA All-Star and twice was named WHA's top defenceman. The shutdown D pair is Randy Moller and Steven Finn who played 7 and 10 seasons each for Quebec. A couple of tough customers who totalled over 2,500 PIM's for Quebec. Jeff Brown barely gets the nod over Curtis Leschyshyn for his three seasons of offensive production.
Peter Stastny, Michel Goulet and Real Cloutier make a formidable top line for Quebec. Cloutier put up 566 points in five WHA seasons, scoring more than 60 goals three different times and in four NHL Nordiques seasons, he still produced well over a point-per-game. Sakic scored 626 points in 508 games for the Nord and is flanked by WHA stars Tardif and Bernier. Tardif was named WHA MVP twice and an All-Star four times. Bernier was an All-Star once and in 1977 had one of the greatest playoff runs in hockey history scoring 36 points in 17 games as Quebec won their only championship. Mats Sundin centres to Stastny's; Marian and Anton. Marian Stastny beats out three fine WHA years by Rejean Houle. The checking line for the Nords features Alain Cote who played all twelve seasons of his career with Quebec. Dale Hunter is a logical choice for the centre spot while Owen Nolan is a bit of a stretch at RW. While known as more of a scorer, his toughness earns him a spot here.
Another stretch for the Nords All-Time team is at the Foundational Player spot where I go with Eric Lindros. Sure, it's a beat cheeky and no, he never played for Quebec. Sure, Lindros out-right snubbed them at the draft, but he really did create the foundation of a future Stanley Cup winning team.
